In 1996, I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht. Besides my artistic practice, I am the owner of the design studio Design al dente and the illustrator and author of the picture book Pien en Pirat en het geheim van de schat (Pien and Pirate and the secret of the treasure).
Although painting takes up an important place in my work, I have also realized many other creative projects: from interactive art and light projections to design furniture and ceramics. I am currently also working on my first graphic novel.
You can see my art on the following pages: Paintings and murals (The entire website isn’t translated into English.)
My newest graphic novel is about Rosie from Texel. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she finds a mysterious map on an old ship. What follows is a thrilling journey that defies the laws of time and reality. The ship, which is linked to a sixteenth-century ghost story, takes Rosie to a mysterious island.
The graphic novel spans multiple time periods. Each period is drawn in a different style.
My picture book Pien en Pirat en het geheim van de schat (Pien and Pirate and the secret of the treasure) was published in 2025. It is an adventurous story about friendship and cooperation. For young explorers aged 3 to 7.
With playful look-and-find assignments and colorful, detailed illustrations that spark the imagination.
Since 2023, I have also been focusing on ceramics. The inspiration for these objects comes directly from natural, organic shapes. Some of the creations are fired and glazed, while other pieces are painted with paint. This ensures that each piece acquires a distinctive texture and its own unique character.
I design and build my own cabinets, including this unique cabinet of curiosities. I sculpted and then painted many of the exhibited objects myself. Such as the fossils, corals, and the skulls of various animals
Between 2009 and 2011, I created a series of unique design tables. The tables feature detailed engravings. For example, there are tables with a rose motif in white or natural wood and a blossom motif executed in black. The tables were presented at the Dutch Design Week and the Woonbeurs (Home Fair), among other events.
In addition, during that period, I also painted beer tables and applied a protective layer of boat varnish.
Between 2005 and 2009, I worked on various light and video projections. This included a projection on the Regional Historical Centre during the Glow Festival in Eindhoven.
I also created an animation for a video mapping on two mansions in the Open Air Museum (Arnhem). With the interactive project Throwing Lights, visitors could throw light spots onto buildings.
With the artists' group DDA, I developed various interactive art projects, such as the Cockroach Lounge. This was the first interactive floor projection where visitors had to collectively drive cockroaches towards a drain.
Another project was the Haunted Highway, an interactive game installation where visitors could experience a car ride together on a moving back seat. The steering was literally done by steering with the back seat.
I have been drawing all my life with pencil, markers, charcoal, pen, and ink. But I also work with other techniques such as watercolor and printmaking/graphics.
The image shows a watercolor of the St.John's Church in Maastricht, which I made in 1995 during my studies at the art academy.
Since 2000, I have been providing training sessions and courses. I currently teach UX Design, Photoshop, and Infographics at the training institute Competence Factory.
In addition, I have set up the accredited UX Design Master Post-HBO program and I supervise students with their graduation projects.
